Things to See...

The Alki Beach Condo is ½ block from Alki (pronounced ALK-eye) Beach Park, one of several parks along the 4+ mile stretch along the waterfront from the West Seattle Bridge, westward to the Alki Point Lighthouse. Linking these parks, which provide dramatic views of the city of Seattle, Elliott Bay, Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains, are wide paths for walking, jogging, bicycling and rollerblading.

Walking and bicycle paths offer scenic views and plenty of benches to rest and watch ferry boats, container ships, tugs and cruise ships glide by.

Luna Park Seawall is the site of a newly restored park that juts out over the water, offering a 280 degree view from Elliott Bay and the city of Seattle to the east to Bainbridge Island and the Olympic Mountains to the west.

A neighborhood artist comes to the beach from time to time during summer to do her mermaid sand sculptures. Be sure to drop a tip in her jar as you go by.

Wonderfully fragrant Rugosa roses bloom both in the garden at the condo and on the beach in summer.

Our much loved Statue of Liberty is a well known landmark. The original statue, installed in 1952, served us well, weathering many a storm. The fragile, well-worn original has been replaced with a new one, cast in bronze. The new statue was unveiled here at the beach on September 11, 2007.

This monument at Alki Beach Park marks the place where the first white settlers landed to establish the community that would become the city of Seattle. Shortly after their arrival, they moved their settlement eastward into Elliott Bay which is where today’s downtown is located. More information on the "Birthplace of Seattle" is available at the nearby Log House Museum.

Low tides are great opportunities to discover marine life at Alki Beach. Clams, jellyfish, starfish, barnacles, moon snails and many other interesting creatures are visible then. To check the tide charts for your visit, click here.

Whale Tail Park, located three blocks from the condo and one block from the beach, has a play structure, swings, slides, a separate toddler play area including a sandbox and of course this big whale tail to climb on. Next to Whale Tail Park are tennis courts and a playfield.

For a fun day trip, take the Elliott Bay Water Taxi from the Alki neighborhood across the bay to downtown Seattle. The dock where the taxi departs is about 2 miles from the condo, but the free Water Taxi shuttle stops regularly at the end of our street to take you to the taxi and bring you home. For details, click here. Sitting on a log on the beach watching the sun go down behind the Olympics is the perfect ending for an unforgettable day at the beach.
